Carina Zell-Ziegler, PhD student at EnSu, was invited as an expert to the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development on Wednesday, 10 April 2024.

The public expert discussion was entitled “Sufficiency as a central strategy of German sustainability policy”. It was based on the position paper „MEHR vom WENIGER! Die deutsche Nachhaltigkeitspolitik braucht eine Suffizienzstrategie“ (german), which was published by the Ecumenical Network for Climate Justice (ÖNK) in the autumn and is heavily based on the research of the EnSu project. The paper has now been signed by over 60 organisations, including Bread for the World, Misereor, Klima-Allianz and B.A.U.M.

Her role at the PBNE expert discussion was to provide a scientific basis for the statements. It was surprisingly positive that none of the parliamentary groups present (SPD, Greens, CDU/CSU, FDP, AfD) questioned sufficiency in general; it was more about implementation and political instrumentation. The video recording and an article summarising some aspects of the discussion can be found here (german)https://www.bundestag.de/dokumente/textarchiv/2024/kw15-pa-nachhaltigkeitsbeirat-suffizienz-996068.
